Workflow

Four steps, no instrumentation

  1. 01

    Start from culture

    Use a carbapenem non-susceptible pure colony of Enterobacterales or Pseudomonas aeruginosa from selective medium — or go directly from a positive blood culture.

  2. 02

    Resuspend in buffer

    Add extraction buffer to the microtube, transfer the colonies with the supplied loop or pipette and mix.

  3. 03

    Load the cassette

    Transfer 100 µl of the suspension into the sample well of the single-use cassette. No calibration or reagent preparation.

  4. 04

    Read at 15 minutes

    Read the control line plus the five named test lines visually. Each line identifies a carbapenemase family, so the result is directly actionable.

Interpretation

Why the enzyme family matters

  • KPC, OXA-48-like

    Serine carbapenemases

    Hydrolyse carbapenems through a serine active site. Newer β-lactam / β-lactamase-inhibitor combinations are generally active against this group, so identifying it opens treatment options that metallo-enzymes rule out.

  • NDM, VIM, IMP

    Metallo-β-lactamases

    Zinc-dependent enzymes that are not inhibited by classical or newer serine β-lactamase inhibitors. Detecting them redirects therapy early and flags a high infection-control priority.
